A very large headquarters bunker which was home to the Boulogne District Commander and his staff, it stands in the heart of the city just outside the city’s ramparts and central citadel.
This is a very difficult site to access as it stands on the site of a private medical facility and can only be viewed from the outside with permission. We are grateful for being granted access.
The Kommandostand building is over 32m long and 20m wide and would have had over 20 rooms inside including officer quarters, a communications centre, medical facilities, and offices as well as rooms for heating and ventilation equipment.
