Wn219c Nachtigall
Inland defensive site with MG positions and shelters
Wn219c Nachtigall site overview
What to see
This small site is located around Ferme d’Honvault and holiday parks between Wimereux and Boulogne-sur-Mer and features some interesting buildings alongside field defences.
The most obvious of the concrete constructions here is the large personnel shelter which can be seen from the D940 road, but there are lots of other buildings and positions around the area.
Nachtigall was an inland defensive resistance nest which protected the gap between sites and northern flank of the nearby Fort de la Creche bunker site.
Four personnel buildings were surrounded by machine gun posts, some established in the wall surrounding the farm and others in bespoke bunkers, including one which can still be accessed and has a clear view across the fields to the road and Creche site.
Split by the main Calais to Boulogne railway line, in the field east of the main site and tracks you can see a Flakstand anti-aircraft gun position on the high ground, but this can be difficult to see and access when there are crops in the field.
