Stp148c Maastricht

Inland bunker site south west of Calais city

Stp148c Maastricht site overview

What to see

This small bunker site stands in the small strip of woodland in front of the huge power station which provides electricity for the Channel Tunnel.
Under a dense canopy of trees and largely overgrown woodland floor you can find four R669 type gun casemates built here long before the power station was created. All four faced to the north giving coverage of the beach and area inland of Sangatte.
You can see that all four have suffered from internal explosions to render them unusable, two are now just piles of concrete blocks while the other two suffered less damage and you can walk through the inside of each and see the internal results of exploded ammunition.
All four casemates have an additional concrete building on the right side at the rear. These look more impressive from the outside than they actually are, the thick concrete constructions only offering a small, triangular room of a couple of metres in length inside.
There are also four small shelter buildings located at the site, two are visible in the undergrowth but these are heavily overgrown. The shelters are a mixture of corrugated iron and brick with buried entrances.
