Wn50a Bayeux
Large hospital bunker in historic town
Wn50a site overview
What to see
Located in the northern suburbs of the historic town of Bayeux, on Rue Saint Quentin, this small site is easily overlooked and features just two buildings, a R639 bunker and a special construction bunker for a generator.
The generator bunker is no longer visible from the road as it stands behind a large wall and is overgrown but the R639 is more easily spotted next to the road.
This bunker stands in the ground of a small hospital and was itself a multi-room ‘dressing station’ which contained two wards, an operating theatre, rooms for doctors, showers, a boiler room, and a reception area for injured troops.
