Wn129 Plage du Vicq

Small resistance nest on headland east of Cherbourg

Wn129 Plage du Vicq site overview

What to see

This resistance nest to the east of Cherbourg was one of many small sites along the coast between the larger batteries of Hamburg, Brulay, and Judee and those of Neville Blankenese and Gatteville on the northeast Cotentin coast.
While is may be a small position, there are still some fascinating builds here, including a section of anti-tank wall in a well preserved condition. If you look closely, you can see a protected opening for a machine gun built into the wall.
Behind the wall, and now almost completely overgrown you can see mounds of earth which cover several shelters and an open emplacement. At each flank there is a remaining Tobruk.
