A former French fort area which is now a large camping site where you can see two big gun casemates – one each facing to the east and west on this headland position.
Covering the east side of the site is a R612 casemate for a 75mm field cannon and this building now has a large window in the gun embrasure and is used as a storeroom for the holiday park.
Facing west, back towards Cherbourg you can see the smaller R667 casemate for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun which has been incorporated into the wall of the old fort site. The embrasure of the R667 has now been blocked off and is part of one of the gardens for the residents in the caravan located almost on top of the casemate.
Inside the perimeter of the walls, and now hidden amongst the caravans are several of the old fort’s buildings including a troop station/HQ and ammunition stores.
