Wn04 La Madeleine
Under construction during D-Day
Wn04 site overview
What to see
Located on the crossroads of the D913 and La Madeleine road near the horse track, plans were to create a series of barracks for soldiers located at the strongpoints nearer the beach, but they were still under construction when Allies forces landed in June 1944.
The village of La Madeleine, in particular its small chapel, was used by both occupying German forces and the Allies. In the original mono image - from the Utah Beach Museum archives - you can see US troops emerging from the battle damaged building following a service.
